Trader Joe's Goodies
I had heard people rave about this great food store Trader Joes all over the Internet. Next thing I knew, we had one open in Cary. It really is a great bargain and fun place to shop. James adores it even more than I do (in part due to the cheap but good wine selections they offer!) They do offer a lot of different products than I am used that aren't available elsewhere and we always pick up a few new offerings to try on each visit. I have become a fast fan of most everything I have tried there with a couple of exceptions (Grits in a tube-you gotta be kidding me?). Anyway, a couple of weeks ago one day when Jamie was in bible school and Taylor was in school after sorting and donating toys James and I had a half and hour to kill by ourselves( Kid Free is never heard of these days!) which is very rare so we made a Trader Joe's run (shows our priorities huh?). We picked up some new items to try.
New York Deli Style Baked Cheesecake (frozen)-Thumbs up! Well DUH-HUH! It is cheesecake for crying out loud of course I loved it! Very authentic tasting and at like $5 it was cheaper than buying the cream cheese to make it myself.
Blood Orange Flavored Italian Soda-Two Thumbs Up! We are huge fans of the TJ's Italian sodas. I avoided this one I think because of the bad association with the name and the red color of the beverage. After I got past that, I declared this one my new favorite over the tangerine and orange sodas. Those sodas are great but really cry out for some Asti, champagne or vodka. Blood Orange is a stand alone beverage that I could drink very regularly!
Mandarin Orange Chicken (frozen) Pretty Good. I had high expectations for this one as people rave about it. To me it is very similar to what you might get at the mall at the Oriental Place in the food court. A quick meal.
Hawaiian Style Potato Chips (salt and vinegar flavor) Very Tangy. Crunchy but I would like a different seasoning I think.
Veggie Chips (snack food)- Ok this really don't count as a substitute for real veggies but the kids do like them. They are less greasy than chips and they go well with a sandwich.
