Fall is in the air...

As much as I love summertime fun, I also enjoy the fall. It really is a great time with the kids as we can get out and about and do things with out worrying about the heat so much. Since the storm of Ernesto passed through last week, we have had much cooler temps these days. Eighties that feel quite comfortable.

Wednesday, we were able to go on our first nature walk of the season. While the leaves have only a tinge of color change we did see several that have "FALLen" so we talked about "Fall" and Taylor added that after the leaves fall off the trees-then it's time for Christmas Trees! I just loved that observation of the seasons by her. It makes sense.

On the walk, we also saw butterflies, birds and mushrooms. We gathered some goodies for our bucket to talk about when we got home. The bucket consisted of pebbles, a rock, pine needles, a tiny leaf courtesy of Jamie, s red colored plant, some flowers and a few gnarled pine cones. The biggest "find" of the day was by far a new friend we did not expect to see. A small but long black snake crossed out path! Taylor was not scared one bit as she wanted to seek the snake out of his hiding spot in the woods. We waited until we knew he was out of harm's way and then as we passed, I looked over and saw him sitting some tall weeds with his tongue out. I guess he was getting a "sniff" of us.

I am so looking forward to even a little cooler weather and the traditional fall activities we have coming up.

I am a fall girl, too. It is just beginning to feel that way...59 degrees this morning as I drove the children to school. I particularly miss living in Upstate NY during this time (that was the most wonderful season, there).

Perhaps we're kindred spirits; fall is my favorite season, too. It heralds so many good things. My dear son will be five in November and I'm hoping to take him to his first SEC football game this year! Your fall walk sounds delightful.

I would love to see the foilage up north sometime. Especially vermont. I can just imagine that area to be like an LL Bean catalog photo.

Can't start the younguns too early on football or can you? Go heels!

    Thalia,
When we lived in NY we were only an hour from Bennington,VT (Bennington Pottery) and that is where we went to get pumpkins and just enjoy the scenery...did you know VT. has more cows than people and only 3 Walmarts in the whole state...how cool is that? I loved it there!
